What is the HR 1388-GIVE Act? I have been doing some searching on this bill. It stands for Generations Invigorating Volunteerism & Education Act. In a nutshell, the “GIVE” act, would require the US government to develop a plan to implement a “mandatory service requirement for all able young people”.
Voluntary according to Webster means: proceeding from the will or from one's own choice or consent, having power of free choice, acting or done of one's own free will without valuable consideration or legal obligation.
When I was young I volunteered as a volunteer at a local hospital. Nobody made me do it. It was my choice. It gave my an opportunity to get a feel for the hospital environment. It was during this time I was deciding on Nursing as a career.
We live in a country that is free. We have the ability to make choices. If my kids want to volunteer, well then that is their choice. Who is the government to tell my children that they MUST do volunteer work.
